Some of the companions of The Messengerﷺ came to him and they said to The Prophetﷺ with deep stress, “Oh Messenger of Allahﷺ, sometimes we have these thoughts, we hate having these thoughts, we never dare to speak of them and we just want them to go away...
So, it's not like we like having these thoughts, it's not that we are entertaining these thoughts, but we are having these thoughts and we can't get them out of our head. We don't speak of them & we wish that they would go away.” The Prophetﷺ said, “Are you really facing that?”
They said, “Ya Rasool-Allah, that's what we are facing.” He replied, “That is clear faith.” Meaning: Alhamdulillah that you deal with it, the way you deal with it, know that Allahﷻ will reward you for doing what you are doing, meaning the way you feel, the guilt that you feel...
...for even having that waswasah (whisper), for even having that doubt is actually a sign of imān in itself because shaytan (devil) is always going to whisper but the fact that you are not allowing that whisper to not turn itself into action is a sign of clear faith.
In another Hadith from Mu'adh, some people came to The Prophetﷺ and they said, “Ya Rasool-Allahﷺ, these thoughts we would rather die than act upon them, we hate thinking about these things... Why do we keep thinking like this, why do these thoughts & doubts creep in? ” ...
... The Prophetﷺ said, “All praise is due to Allahﷻ, Who reduced the Shaytan's plans to whispers.”
Hassan Al-Basri ؒ said that when Shaytan gives up on leading you astray, then all he's reduced to is a bunch of whispers. And as long as you let it stay there, ...

... and you don't allow it to penetrate your actions, don't think Allahﷻ is going to punish you for your thoughts. The Prophetﷺ said, “Allahﷻ has forgiven my Ummah for that which they say to themselves but don't put into action.”
And Prophetﷺ said, “Shaytan would even take your positive moments & try to spoil them, so you are looking around you and you're admiring the creation of Allahﷻ and who created this? And you would say- Allahﷻ. Then, Shaytan would say, “Who created Allahﷻ?” ...
The Prophetﷺ said, “At that moment, seek refuge in Allahﷻ from The Shaytan.” In other Hadith, Heﷺ said, “When thoughts come to you, when Shaytan tries to penetrate your thoughts, at that moment say «Āmantu Billah» meaning I believe in Allah” & you'll send the Shaytan running.
So, remember to say Āmantu-Billah when you have such thoughts. May Allahﷻ allow us to remain strong in our faith. May Allahﷻ remove Shaytan from our thoughts and our actions and our deeds. Allāhumma Aameen!
