As a historian, I absolutely CANNOT accept the inaccuracies in these statements.

Second of all, Japan HAD guns before industrialisation during the Meiji Period. The Portuguese introduced firearms to Japan during the Sengoku Period & the samurai were happy to use them in combat.

It’s just that during the Edo Period, they stopped using them & that’s why they got their asses kicked by Commodore Matthew Perry in 1853 when he tried to force Japan to reopen.

You can get this info by a WIKIPEDIA search. Why didn’t you bother to check??

And I know this episode was recorded before the hosts got the backlash on Twitter, but couldn’t they have told the producers:

“Hey, we got bad press for the previous episode due to factual inaccuracies. Can you please edit the segments out or even get us to re-record?”

Or, if it’s not possible to do so...you know, tell it on Twitter about it???

Just a few words like:

“Hey guys, we should note this episode was recorded before we received feedback. We wanted to make changes but couldn’t do so, so please understand this going into the episode.”
