#thread It’s been an ugly week. Images of racism, brutality, divide, anger could not be ignored. I feel hurt, frightened and angry, and I know that I am not alone. I saw the images you shared, read your comments. But this week is no different to any other week.
Will Smith wisely says, ‘Racism isn’t getting worse, it’s getting filmed.’

I’ve been struggling to think of what I can do to make a difference. Campaigns, protests, violence, peaceful engagement- nothing seems to work.
I taught about acceptance, inclusion, equity through throughout my time in school, as so many, many of my colleagues. Small inroads of success but racism lives on.
What we need is something simple to unite us. I thought about the simplicity of the #heforshe movement. Men standing by women to say they support them in their fight for equity. I tried to think of a clever hashtag for us to show our allegiance to unity, acceptance, inclusion.
I didn’t have to think of anything, it’s already been written and spoken about for centuries by our African elders #Ubuntu.
My idea is very simple. I’m asking everyone to become informed about Ubuntu philosophy, teach it, share it, BE Ubuntu. Add #Ubuntu to your name and stand up straight and tall for everyone to see what your values are.

Just a thought 💡Do you have it in your soul to BE #Ubuntu?
Some books to read
And some wisdom
