Good morning! Want to read a mega thread about what people in Haringey think of #LockdownCyclingFreedom, their hopes for the future and why we must #StopTheTrafficTide? Then read on! (with thanks to the supporter who collated, anonymised, and shared these comments)
"We have found the quieter roads meant we felt safe enough to get out and cycle around the neighbourhood with my son on back of my bike and it was a complete life saver. When he goes back to Nursery, we will definitely try to take him on the bike."
"I want my children to be able to cycle in safety, in quiet streets with minimal traffic."

"I want to go on bike rides with my children without worrying about their safety."

"I used to cycle-commute, but cycling with my son in a seat on the back of the bike terrifies me."
"I moved from Copenhagen to London, and although I still cycle with my child on the back, I was shocked at how much more dangerous it is. I cycle commute and would love safe, segregated cycle lanes. It would mean I could go cycling with my kids and not worry so much about safety"
"I have just started cycling to work to avoid public transport because of COVID - I want to feel confident to continue this but if the roads get busier and there are no cycle lanes I am worried I won’t feel able to!"
"I drive to work and anticipate a rise in the number of cyclists post-lockdown. I would feel happier driving with clearer cycling routes and signs."

"I will be cycling to work and my daughter will post lockdown. Safe cycle routes are a MUST as there will be an increase in cars."
"My son has recently learnt to ride, and I’ve bought a bike to keep up with him! We’ve used some quiet roads during lockdown, but even they are pretty stressful with a significant minority of drivers driving very aggressively and carelessly."
"I work in a Central London NHS hospital and during lockdown we have been able to drive and park, but now there is more traffic and less parking available I want to be able to cycle to and from work. I’m not experienced at road cycling so need cycle lanes separate from cars"
"I've enjoyed cycling with my family during lockdown with fewer cars and would love to continue this, but would only feel safe to do so if their were better cycle routes. The benefit of family time together has been lovely but is starting to be spoilt again by aggressive drivers"
"My husband and I bought bikes with child seats for our children just before the lockdown and at the beginning it was glorious - hardly any cars on the road. Now, it's starting to feel less and less safe and have already had two cars beep or get angry"
"I am cycling in to town - but the traffic is building up again and didn’t feel safe today (which means I’ll end up getting back into the car until there are safe cycle routes)"
"We need cycle lanes and cycle ways through dangerous junctions to give those that are able the chance to cycle. I’ve only cycled to work when there was a cycle route for much of the journey."
"Safe cycle lanes are crucial. These days there are lot more people out on their cycles (including us), which is great. But there has also been an increase in traffic on the roads. It’s not safe. Haringey must roll out dedicated lanes and a safe cycling plan as soon as possible."
"During lockdown, I cycled for the first time since I moved to Tottenham from Hackney ten years ago (I used to cycle in Hackney regularly). Because the roads were so much quieter, it was the first time I had felt safe to do so"
"I cycle to work in central London - or I did, anyway, and will do again. I also cycle to do my shopping and meet up with friends. Cycling is the easiest form of exercise that I can manage (at my age). It’s not only good physical exercise but good for mental health too."
"I cycle to work and would love to see Turnpike Lanes, Wightman rd and Green Lanes be given cycle lanes, as these are the most dangerous parts and there is no way around them."
"I want safe cycle lanes for myself and my kids to be able to get around safely, without needing to rely on a car."

"I cycle six miles into Central London and the most dangerous segment is going through crouch end"
"We must make it safe for people to cycle on our roads. At the moment so many would love to cycle but are scared or intimidated by dangerous drivers. Good cycle ways and lanes and closed roads will do this. Everyone benefits from an increase in cycling."
"I think it is great to see lots of families out cycling in the side streets in Crouch End and Hornsey now that the roads are quieter. All these people on bikes show that if it is safe they will cycle."
"I’m planning on cycling to work once we’re looking to return to our offices, but I already struggle with cycling through traffic now, although there are fewer vehicles than out of lockdown. Without improvements, I expect I’d be too scared to get on the bike during peak hours."
"I just bought a bike last week to avoid the bus, i come to crouch end every day for work coming from Westbury avenue through Turnpike lane.. And I find them very dangerous because they are too narrow and no space for bikes."
"Cycling in London is great, however the lack of cycle lanes in our borough is very poor. Pls improve Harringay council!"

"I'm lucky to be able to cycle to work... but the Haringey end of my cycle is by far the scariest, smoggiest and least safe."
"I gave up cycling and sold my bike just after I moved to haringey because it was just too difficult to cycle safely for me."

"I’d cycle of it was safe we need long cycle lanes on key routes"
"This would be the only way I would consider cycling as a safe way to travel - we need safe designated lanes to do so. I would use them if this was done"
If you've read down this far - well done. Now take 2 minutes to email the council leader to make sure Haringey plays its part to #StopTheTrafficTide https://membership.lcc.org.uk/help-london-stop-tide-motor-traffic-returning
