English sheilders - a few thoughts from me re the Westminster govt panicked pronouncements on shielding. #bccww
See what it says. And use your judgement and be sensible. But here’s somethings that personally I think need addressing.
Firstly remember a past diagnosis or present one of cancer means you are considered disabled by legislation. However uncomfortable this might make you feel personally as identifying as disabled - don’t ignore the protection it might provide to you.
I stress might because I’m not a lawyer. But it could be important IF the government leaves employed shielders hanging or creates limbo for them and employers.
If your income is suffering get help on any benefits you may be entitled to. Citizens Advice, Macmillan are the types of organisations to look for. I’ll post some links at the end. They will be England specific &/or U.K. wide.
Current or ongoing hospital patient? If you have a key worker get some questions together for them firstly. From what I’m reading on here - the NHS have not had sight of these plans. They may be overwhelmed come Monday. So take a breath.
Similary GPs. So essentially carry on as you have been for now I’d suggest. Many people are doing this on their own. Many of you aren’t and there is the additional worry of your household going out. Do the best you can.
https://www.lawcentres.org.uk/i-am-looking-for-advice a legal charity that provides free advice in most areas including employment. Some areas of law will mean a fixed fee so you should check.
Don’t ignore any local community hubs and groups in your region. Local churches to me (for example) run a food kitchen. Explore what’s around you as well.
Finally - remember you may need to be patient if you try to get advice from some of these organisations. I imagine right they are stretched tight. Many do however carry a lot of good information on their websites as a starting point.
Also typos 🤷‍♀️ not wearing my 🤓
