When you have unmarked police vandalising stocks of water and milk, brought there to sustain a peaceful protest, you know you've lost the narrative and the moral basis of your argument. 1/* https://twitter.com/nataliealund/status/1266877890492108801
What is happening in the US is tragic, unavoidable and set to repeat itself time and time again. In a country whereby the second amendment has been misinterpreted and twisted to: Everybody can carry a gun - allegedly to protect the 'free state' instead of its intended 2/*
purpose of protecting citizens from misadventures by the state, in a country whereby the first amendment (free speech) is more applicable to rich white media owners and the fourth amendment (protect against unreasonable searches) only to those that can afford legal protection 3/*
where cruel punishment is prohibited by the eighth amendment - yet far more likely the death penalty be applied if you are black and the (alleged) victim white... I'm 41, riots in America again, again and again. And it won't be the end of it now until that society changes. 4/*
But let's not fool ourselves here in the UK or Europe - Racism is still prevalent here, we still have structures and societal barriers in place that disadvantage people from different backgrounds. Colonial superiority still being taught in schools (by accident or design) 5/*
We still tell kids that they are different. We segregate them implicitly by having neighbourhoods that are predominantly made up of immigrants that 'natives' refuse to move to. So much still to do - speaking out against #racism is only part of the solution.
