There is a historical context to all of this. It goes back years. Decades. Centuries. If you’ve made no effort to understand what’s happening tonight by learning where it stems from, it hardly seems appropriate to give your opinion about how people should express their rage.

Any discussion of hypothetical “right” and “wrong” ways to protest misses the entire point. I guarantee that nobody marching in the streets gives a flying fuck about that opinion right now. The only question that matters in this moment is how did we allow it to get to this point.

For centuries people have been marching and shouting everything we need to know in order to understand this moment. In no way was it unclear. They were demanding respect. Humanity. And this country utterly, unquestionably failed them. Over and over. It’s fucking devastating.
