I love #dnd. It's been an important part of my life since I was little. D&D's role in my life has grown along with me, and has become a cornerstone. It's the backdrop for some of the best times, and best friends I've ever known.

It is also not above reproach or critique. 1/6
It has a long history, its roots run deep, and some of those roots are rotten. People are going to have different experiences with the game than I have. People are going to have different perspectives on it, and their voices matter. Their experiences matter. 2/6
I almost retweeted a thread by an indy trpg designer showcasing the blatant and toxic response D&D fans gave them for making an offhand, and valid critical comment, but I didn't, because I'm afraid that fans who follow me would jump on that and pile on. 3/6
That behavior is so incredibly far from okay. If someone has criticisms of D&D, don't shout them down and dismiss them, please listen. Try to see where they're coming from, because chances are very good there's truth to what they're saying. 4/6
I want this game to evolve, to improve, to become something that more people can love and can look at with a feeling of invitation. There are aspects of the game that push people away, and I want to hear about those. It's NECESSARY to hear them. 5/6
So please, don't attack people when they're hurting, feeling pushed away, and trying to express that. We need to listen, and do better.
