It's not sad that there's no pride this year because of COVID, it's actually a WONDERFUL coincidence, because there's no pride in the separation of our equality.
In the same way I didn't choose to be gay, black and brown people didn't choose to be black or brown.

White queers ABSOLUTELY need to recognise that we are at the top of the collective queer food chain.
There shouldn't be a food chain within the queer community, but there is. We need to recognise that.

Ireland, UK, America, WHEREVER - White queers need to stop and remember that queer trans people of colour were the ones who made tidal waves at Stonewall... Yet for some reason white queers have clambered over the shoulders of them to get their own rights first.
And then all of a sudden we're done? Sorry - but we as a queer collective are a minority. Yet for some reason, when a part of the minority gains equality and things are okay for us, we leave our black and brown queer and/or trans siblings marching alone? COME ON.
Irish people have a particular habit of BUT-tering.
A: "I was beaten up for being gay."
B: "That's horrible, BUT at least you can get married legally, and the most of the country isn't like that anymore!"
We've all been that person, are that person, and/or know that person.

Civil partnerships were an example...
A: "I can't get married in Ireland because I'm part of a same-sex relationship"
B: "BUT at least you can get a civil partnership!"

Or direct provision in Ireland:
A: "I am queer, and fleeing persecution for it from my home country. I am forced to live in standards that are worse than prison."
B: "But, at least they're safe. What have they to be complaining about?"

I've seen and heard white Irish queer people saying things like, "We should be looking after our own homeless first. That doesn't make me a racist." when speaking about direct provision and Ireland helping refugees...
1. We can look after more than one thing at a time, and there's nothing wrong with caring about more than one thing at a time.
2. Yes it does. It absolutely makes you a racist, you racist piece of shite.

A couple of years ago I posted a picture of the updated pride flag that features trans, queer people of colour, and HIV representation...
And of course, a white queer person took issue with it being "ugly".
THE RACISM YOU DON'T HAVE TO EXPERIENCE BECAUSE YOU'RE WHITE IS UGLIER.

Black and brown queer and trans people are SHOWING AND TELLING us that things are horrible and things need to change.
White queers, REMEMBER that only 5 years ago you were doing the same, but about things like marriage equality...

Except this isn't something as niche as getting married... It's something basic like going for a run, going to the park, or sitting in your own fucking HOME.
