it's awful how much discourse today treats Black opinion like a monolith; even worse when it's white people invoking it against each other. did you know that like...some Black people use revolutionary violence & others oppose it? that there's no "what Black people say to do"?
seeing white people say on philly facebook groups that white people shouldn't engage in property destruction, justifying this with "I'm listening to Black femme"

hey quick question have you seen any of the copious footage of Black femme fucking shit up? i have
these people (and any person who invoke "actually, Black people are saying to destroy property!") are just using Black people as a voicebox to amplify their own opinions.

there is no "what Black people are saying" and it's liberal identity discourse that creates that idea
white people absolutely need to be sensitive to whether their actions in a protest are putting the Black people there more at risk. if there is a large mass of Black protesters telling a group of white people not to escalate and they're not listening, that's a problem.
but plenty of Black people, including within one protest, vehemently disagree on what tactics are appropriate. white people have to will make choices.

i don't advocate property destruction because "that's what Black people want" because i'm not going to pretend my ideas are
coming through a Black voice. i advocate it because *i* believe it is an effective tactic for achieving strategic goals shared with those who instigated these uprisings and are in the streets right now. if Black organizers in the immediate vicinity express it's a bad tactical
decision because of the consequences it would bring down on them, then it almost certainly means: don't do that here and now.

it's not actually that complicated when people stop treating collective identities as expressing single wills & white people stop claiming Black voice
oh and it's worth noting if it isn't clear: there are a ton of white people fucking this up (on camera even.) that has to change and it should be called out.

but not by claiming the falsehood that "listening to Black people means not destroying property" https://twitter.com/jessfromonline/status/1266981358250885125?s=21 https://twitter.com/jessfromonline/status/1266981358250885125
if you've fallen for a narrative of Black people universally criticizing white people for destruction and theft of property and missed the white people out there criticizing Black people for engaging in or tolerating it...
