I have to say I'm fed up of being a headteacher right now. I can't win (more than ever). Some will agree, some will disagree. Some will applaud and some will throw mud that will stick longer than ever. I just want everyone to consider we are human.
Look at the loose guidelines we've had with no real clarity. Look at the hours we've had to work to to the very best we can to support our communities. Look at the complete sit on the fence stance we have had from many who should be supporting us and the timings of updates.
Leaders and governors have been faced with impossible choices without clarity...but know this...whatever they have chosen to do they have done it with the best intentions for the children in their care, for the families who are desperate to return to work.
Who are struggling to make ends meet. To help vulnerable pupils and families who have been hit hard by removing the one thing that supported them in life.
We care, we care more than anything in the world. We open when we are ready with the support and consultation of staff and governors with an offer encouraged but not accepted by all. We cannot do right by everyone, it is impossible but we do our best.
For those who open tomorrow like me best of luck and stay safe. Support your staff and children as you always have in finding their new norm. You've got this. For those who are not good luck in preparation. It will come when your community are ready.
We are leaders we lead to the best of our abilities now more than ever but we must stop throwing mud and support each other. We're all in it together no matter how it looks.
