this isn& #39;t a case of Who Wore It Best: Coloniser Edition - we each have our own racist structures to assess and dismantle. I see too many of my fellow Aussies going "glad we aren& #39;t racist!" but we are. maybe not each of us individually, but the foundations of the nation itself.
being ignorant is a privilege. being chuffed about it is especially vicious. Aussies shouldn& #39;t be gloating about how our very successfully-implemented genocide policies mean that the general public only have to pay attention to racism when it& #39;s a) trending b) American.
when I say & #39;Indigenous issues& #39; I& #39;m also referring to treatment of other nations& #39; native people by these countries. Australia assisted NZ in quelling Maori uprisings. NZ took violent, oppressive control of Samoa. many people don& #39;t know this because it& #39;s... swept under the rug.
