Some interesting incident of life during service in Customs:
I was posted at airport in 1986-88. officer used to get baggage posting only if he pays to PRO. I used to be posted at peripheral gates of airport. One day while changing in uniform I got 100 KD lying on floor. 1/n

1 Kuwait dinar used to be equivalent to 110 Indian rupees. Officers used to get so much bribe those days that this amount nvr mattered to them. 2/n

2. Once I went out of quarters for night duty. While waiting for bus, I noticed a bundle of currency notes lying near the tree near the gate off Adenewala Road. I picked the bundle and after reaching airport counted. 50 notes of 100 rupees denomination. 3/n

3. Those days lot of Sikh carriers used to land from Singapore. They used to conceal few grams of gold in rectum and if noticed used to be referred to JJ for rrcovery. I was guarding 1 such passenger at JJ when firing took place in general ward and a gangster was killed. 4/n

4. I was allotted s flat in customs qrts, Matunga in 1997. The flat was in bad shape with dead pigeons and their dropping all over. While cleaning the flat, I found 5 bundles of 50 rupees notes. An appraiser used to stay there who had vacated the flat on promotion. 5/n

5. Once wife of customs officer paid the bill of 150 rupees to Dhobi. Dhobi refused to accept money saying that the notes are nakli. She had actually paid in USD but poor Dhobi has refused to accept. Such was the flow of illegal money in Customs 6/n

7. An appraiser staying in Sector 7, CGS Colony, Antop Hill got hint that his house is to be searched by CBI. He asked CHA to immediatly rich to his house and clean it from cash and dump it in Vashi creek. CHA put all cash in his ambassador and kept it with him 8/n

6. Tiger Memon was arrested by Customs in July, 1989 in a gold smuggling case. Since I was involved in that case, I knew him. He was departing for DXB by evening flight after Bombay blasts. No one from Customs or Police stopped him. My seniors kept quiet. 7/n

8. We detected EOU fraud in May, 2000. Commissioner of Customs was very close to former Dy. chairperson of RS. He opted for transfer to DRI after case was detected. When mastermind was interrogated by me, he revealed that he used to enjoy Tea and Coffee with Commissioner. 9/9
