psa to my followers, I am taking a stance. This won’t clear my conscience or let me sit idly by but that’s not the point. My point is to use the bit of a voice I have to hopefully start conversations and call for accountability and action.
If you’ve taken this time to read the first few words to read this thread please finish reading it. I’ve spent a good amount of time prepping, discussing, and praying over this and I hope you will be willing to consider and engage with it.
If this inspires any kind of emotion in you please know that that is for good reason. If what I am saying seems absurd please dig in and challenge my points and challenge your views in an effort to maintain intellectual honesty.
If this convicts you please engage it and don’t let that feeling fade. With that being said please continue reading ‘till the end. I know threads can get long please finish reading and give it a fair shot.
Please check your motives and don’t get involved in the fight for justice and/or speak up on social media for social currency. Messages like these (Below)are pretty and easy to share but if nothing is done about it your time and energy is wasted and you are almost still just as
complicit in others suffering as before. Don’t allow yourself to clear your conscience. Please take ample time to examine your biases and motives. Please take the time to have challenging conversations with those you encounter whether you know them well or not.
After all your life is not on the line and ruffling the feathers of others is a bare minimum way to challenge the status quo. Do your deeds in darkness and do not seek praise from others.
White people please do not burden people of color with texts confirming how bad you think things are—they already know more than you do most likely. Your support and solidarity is most likely appreciated to one degree or another but they don’t need their feelings and opinions
validated and I would urge you to get used to being uncomfortable. It is not the job of black people and other people of color to educate you. Take the time to use your googles to find solid resources. Don’t ask on them to tell you how your boots smell when they are on their
necks. (Not to draw on George Floyd, but if that visual is conjured it is both timely and fitting.) This is not me hopping on twitter/ig to get a pat on the back and know that I’m one of the “good whites”. I only want to make my stances more clear and admit publicly how
complicit I have been (and will unfortunately unintentionally continue to be) in this system. It is tempting to fire off this and return to my comfortable suburban lifestyle and act as if I am not surrounded by this. My calling is for others like me and for me(myself idk grammar)
