/ QAnon & BLM/Protests thread: Pulled 6 days of QAnon data from Facebook and Twitter to get an idea of what QAnon has been doing in this space, their possible impact on the conversation and the propaganda they are disseminating.
/ To contextualize this on Twitter in the past 6 days there have been 31M Tweets from 20M unique authors using #BlackLivesMatter /George Floyd related hashtags and keywords
/ On Facebook verified pages and groups posting about BLM or George Floyd have created 389K posts with 113.3M interactions. BLM specific pages and groups have not posted a large amount of content 6.2K which have geenrated 13.7M interactions.
/ Now that we have an idea of the overall conversation around BLM/Protests/Floyd, what are the metrics from the QAnon community? Out of the 31M tweets in the dataset there are 21K of them related to QAnon keywords.
/ If I look for BLM/Protests/Floyd hashtags in my QAnon dataset I get similar numbers of 21K posts from 18K unique authors. This is out of a total of 753K QAnon tweets from 170K unique authors from the same time period.
/ Quantitatively, what this may mean is that QAnon is not playing a large role in the overall conversation on Twitter. in the BLM/Protests/Floyd data set QAnon represent 0.067% of all tweets, in the QAnon datset BLM/Protests/Floyd represents 2.78% of the conversation
/ On Facebook The Qanon community didn't have a large uptick in content until the 27th echoing the Twitter data. So what happened on the 26th?
/ May 26th was the first drop (4325) of ten from Q about the protests. There is a correlation between this drop and the spike in QAnon activity in the BLM/Protests/Floyd. (I may even lean a tinsy bit towards causation)
/ The reason I lean towards causation a little bit is that the subsequent memes, content and narratives from Q about BLM/Protests/Floyd are the main elements that have been amplified within the Qanon community. eg memes in 4349 4355, counter insurgency guide from USG in 4352
/ The summation of the narrative from QAnon is George Floyd was a paid crisis actor and is in hidding like JFK Jr. Soros has funded antifa to start riots and a race war because the coronavirus was fake but not bringing the success the deep state hoped it would have.
/ Other than diminishing the authentic anger felt by the BLM and the raison-d'être of the protests. Q thought it would be great to promote a QAnon Boogaloo account, which was than amplified by the typical pool of QAnon influencers.
/One of the top links shared about the protest is this one from the Daily Caller anout AG Bill Barr claiming much of the violence is being produced using "antifa-like tactics"
/ QAnon antifa related tweets for the same period featured 25K tweets from 19K unique users. The QAnon community picked up an on antifa narrative on the 29th and Q started pushing the antifa language in his drops on May 30.
/An interesting piece of disinformation that has been circulating in QAnon is this image. Which is recycled disinformation from 2015 claiming "Soros paid protestors to riot in Baltimore following the death of Freddie Grey" https://web.archive.org/i/friends-of-democracy-nfidential-level7-ab-c-action-bwi041815-his-20392268
/ This same screen shot was used by Infowars' Alex Jones in a 2018 to push this narrative. Disinformation is cyclical and this was easy to debunk using a reverse image search.
/ the key takeaways for now:
A) though the QAnon community is reacting to the events that are taking place, they are not having an impact as of now on the larger conversation.
B) QAnon is borrowing tropes and narratives from adjacent far-right groups.
/ C) QAnon is recycling old disinformation from past BLM protests.
D) QAnon is folding the BLM/Floyd protests into their existing worldview, therefore diminishing the BLM movement and simply calling it another fake event crafted by the Deep State to prevent a Trump reelection.
