NYC Legal Stuff:

Seriously don't talk to cops once you get arrested. Don't say you didn't do XYZ whatever. No bullshit chit chat with them. Do not talk about the incident. Say you want to talk to an attorney. [1/3]
If your friend is arrested, call NLG Hotline: 212-679-6018. Give them the name and location/time of arrest.

According to NLG, EVERYONE is being sent to One Police Plaza. Processing times are 5-10 hours. [2/3]
Once at 1PP, they'll process you by name/address and do fingerprints.

At 1PP, there will also be a group of jail support, holding it down until every single person is released. People are holding it down right now. [3/3]

And if you're wondering why call NLG:

They keep track of the person's case and make sure no one gets lost in the system. They coordinate w/ jail support on the outside, too. And of course they can help with connecting to legal representation.
These are the phrases in New York based on New York specific case law because what you said isn't sufficient:

"I want my lawyer"
"I will not speak with you until my lawyer is present"
“I am invoking my right to remain silent”

In that order preferably.
