I generally forget I have twitter as a social media platform, and I especially forget my family isn’t on it
But I’m SO fucking tired of seeing people I know try and silence the protestors right now
There are HUNDREDS of years of systematic racism that are at work in the US, and after so many years of peaceful protest there has to be a next step. And if this is that next step then so be it. Because something has to fucking change
For years I’ve been terrified of the world my little brother will grow up in. He’s a little black boy, who in a few years will be a young black man
And the main target of this systematic racism? Young black men. And that fucking TERRIFIES ME. Because if something doesn’t change in our society as a whole then this could very easily be my little brother one day.
America is built on the riots of others- the Boston tea party, the nat turner rebellion, the stonewall riots; they all happened because peaceful protests didn’t work
I know this thread is all over the place but I really just had to throw some thoughts out there. I don’t care if it’s composed well, I just had to type it or write it somewhere. I’m so ashamed of my country right now
And I’m so incredibly sorry to any person of color for what’s currently happening and everything leading up to this. I can’t imagine how this feels for you but I support you, always. #BlackLivesMatter
