Seems like people forgot all about the COVID-19 lockdowns when it came to what is going on right now.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I clearly support the protests, but it's funny how I was yelled at and called a bad influence for safely seeing my girlfriend for the first time in five months, yet you have people walking around in hotbeds for the virus, some not even wearing masks.
Protests like these require physical contact. Do not be surprised when you hear case numbers have gone up. We are still in the middle of a pandemic.
It's unsafe, but absolutely brave of them, and it should be encouraged, not discouraged. People are risking getting sick to stand up for something that is, scarily enough, far worse than a pandemic such as COVID-19. If anything, what happened to Floyd was the original pandemic.
At the same time, I do hope people realize that this isn't doing anything to prevent a second wave. Literally everything we are seeing will help create the second wave. It's one of those situations where there isn't an easy answer.
You could just not protest, but then you risk not being heard. You could protest, but you also risk getting yourselves and others sick, so you can only hope you have a mild or asymptomatic case.
I'm not saying "both sides," but this is an example of something where there are two sides to something, and people have to weigh the risks. It seems people have decided to take the risk to ensure their voices are heard.
If I lived in a city, I'd be out there protesting for sure. I try to get involved, but I live in an area so rural that it's hard to do anything but spread the word and discuss the issues with people.
