I attended the protest in Albany, NY today, and here is my account:
Protesters wearing masks walked 2.5 miles around Albany. Food and water were handed out by community-based organizations and people were distancing on the roads and sidewalks. People in their cars honked.
Residents in their homes expressed support as well. The event was intended to end at 2:30, but the group moved to the capitol. From the capitol, we moved to @NYGovCuomo's mansion and we chanted for him to leave his house. The group then moved towards Lincoln Park.
I was developing a migraine so I went home. On my way home, I saw two vehicles with police horses drive by and alerted my friend still there. There was no violence that I could see from the protestors to warrant involving horses. They were brought in to split the crowd.
In her livestreams, I saw people being tear gassed, horses splitting people up, fires being started in the parking lot, and police in riot gear. Stones and bricks were thrown at police cars. By word of mouth, it is also assumed 4 people had been run over by a car (s).
As I was writing this thread, she called me to let me know she's on her way home. She has been gassed but is unharmed. Please stay safe, but don't stay silent.
