What I don’t get: yes on a theoretical level, oppression is connected. There is and must be solidarity with oppressed ppl around the world (similar to the solidarity between SA activist against apartheid and Palestinians). But I don’t get the point of talking about it now
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that American news stories dominate when other country’s stories are largely shared only within certain circles. Maybe this is an attempt by those ppl to bring their cause to the forefront.
But even then- it (this focus on connected global oppression) can seem like ppl are trying to shift the focus or minimize things by saying ‘yeah you’re in pain, so are we and the rest of the world’
But who knows. This thread isn’t saying we should talk about global oppression right now or we shouldn’t - just talking about my confusion as to the why.
