I find it funny that people are like, “Why is Omaha protesting something that has nothing to do with it?” As if Omaha hasn’t been one of THE most segregated cities in the US for 50+ years.
Black Omahans have face systemic racism and segregation in housing, schooling, the workplace, and in police treatment. Omaha might be Nebraska’s most liberal city but has been PLAGUED with racism throughout its history.
As someone who loves Omaha, it’s hard to acknowledge its deeply flawed past and present. But it’s our duty as its citizens to nominate officials who are dedicated to fixing these systemic issues. Educate yourself on who is fighting for black Omahans and who is using them as pawns
