it's clear that a lot of smart and well-meaning online leftists truly do not understand how aggressively white Minnesotans and Wisconsinites in the suburbs and exurbs absolutely loathe the city of Minneapolis

yeah a lot of the destruction is by mpls residents. a lot of it is protesters directing righteous anger at intolerable systems

it's also true that a huge population of awful racist idiots in the deep suburbs and beyond have been waiting for years for an opportunity to trash Mpls

I honestly have to assume (and I fully own that this is a boiling hot take) that the usual national-level ignorance of the diversity/vibrance/progressivism - the general Big Cityness of Minneapolis - has got to be at least a part of this misinterpretation by folks from elsewhere

don't actually retweet this, there are black activists and community defenders actually on the ground in Mpls right now who you should be amplifying instead. we can talk about this stuff later
