i have a newfound respect for sg rappers who have reading comprehension skills and acknowledged that there are those that need to do better, while they also strive to do better themselves. watch me support the fuck out of them cause looking at certain ones....missing the point...
and can people stop annoyingly assuming that the rappers i’m referring to are the big names that you see go viral https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😑" title="Expressionless face" aria-label="Emoji: Expressionless face"> i’m talking about every single person who’s hopped on the trend of rapping, dropping mixtapes etc. and CLEARLY they aren’t necessarily known/followed by many.
and if you have ANY common sense it is pretty self-explanatory why you and i are not seeing the same things. cause we follow a DIFFERENT SET OF PEOPLE and have a different circle. just because YOU do not see it doesn’t mean the issue isn’t there. why do i have to explain this.
and if you (hopefully) develop more common sense you will also realise my tweet was a whole 24 hours ago. in between that space of 24 hours i’m sure there must have been those who finally started doing something who initially WEREN’T doing anything (which thus led to my tweet)-
so CLEARLY.....the number of those doing something right now is DEFINITELY higher than the number of those who were doing it 24 hours ago. when i tweeted that. my statement looks shaky to you because SURPRISE! a lot happens in 24 hours! a lot changes with time! who knew!
here’s the part where a bit of a reality check kicks in. what exactly is it that is expected from ANY decent human being but especially those who primarily profit off black culture? i’m sorry but just rting pics of protests, malcolm x speeches, videos of police brutality etc. -
and posting a quote on your ig story is not enough. no, i didn’t say it’s wrong or you shouldn’t be doing that. but it is not ENOUGH. especially not if you’re someone who is benefiting from their culture — it is not enough when you very clearly could be doing more. and nobody’s-
forcing you to donate. not everyone is able to do that & that’s okay. but you can still make a difference, that’s why we have PETITIONS. doing something means taking ACTION. and when we say speak up we mean speak up about the ACTION that needs to be taken. https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/# ">https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/...
if your response to that is “lol i don’t need to do that” then you need to take a step back and ask yourself why the fuck you are rapping. how dare you use elements of THEIR CULTURE, but do NOTHING to help THEIR PEOPLE? and don’t hit me with the “rapping is not just for black-
you’d think that people would want to at least educate themselves if they want to get so invested in it. kudos to some of the sg rappers i‘ve seen who know and respect the history & origin and who stand up, voice out and do something for the black people who gave it to them.
and now on to the “hottest take” i assume — my tweet “shitting on the sg rap scene” ??? i don’t know who needs to hear this, but i know better than to be hateful to people who are creating their own art in their own space. i believe in supporting local and respecting one’s work-
and i wouldn’t gain anything by sitting here saying “SG RAP SUX!!! LOL SG NO TALENT JUST LISTEN TO ASAP ROCKY!!!” ??? so why would i do that? and if you know me you’ll know i don’t shun it just because it’s local and if you think that way please stop being a dickhead.
if you look at my tweet, and you use your reading comprehension skills — you will see that the only purpose of it was to call out those who aren’t doing what they should be doing. tell me WHERE i implied that the sg rap scene ain’t shit? all i did was bring light to an issue.
and if your response to that is “well you didn’t need to bring light to it” why not? so some of you who i’m calling out can just sit around and act black/adopt elements from their culture but then do nothing when you’re supposed to? why shouldn’t i bring light to it?
how low do your morals and how shitty do your priorities have to be and how selfish are you if you’re more concerned about the way people MIGHT view the sg rap scene (which, i doubt anyone sensible would view differently because i called out INDIVIDUALS & not the whole community-
and people who have brains and can think for themselves know how to seperate those individuals from the hiphop community and rap scene as a whole) instead of caring about calling people out to do something to help black people....? just how dense are you? THAT’S your priority?
i feel like i’ve addressed nearly every dumb response i’ve gotten. also, please don’t try to act edgy or tough thinking you’re “backing up” the rap scene (nobody was even attacking it in the first place. just the individuals who are guilty. stop being dense.) because you’re only-
exposing your own priorities for everyone to see. and it doesn’t look good on you. if you’re still going to argue after reading this thread then at this point i’m convinced you’re either genuinely stupid, not reading or just aren’t willing to see the bigger political picture.
with that being said, please do not forget the actual issue at hand and the main priority that needs to be focused on — and that’s helping black people in any way possible. sign petitions, donate if you can and pass it on to others too. gn. https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/# ">https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/...
