Hey folks, I’m a reporter for @JournalStarNews and I’ll be using this account to tweet about the protests happening at the Nebraska State Capitol right now. LPD Chief recently finished speaking, struggled to be heard over crowd.

Protest marching northbound toward UNL. Traffic on cross streets blocked as they pass. Chants of “no justice, no peace”

Chants of “I can’t breathe” and “hands up, dont shoot” one protester at least spray painting barricades and light posts

Headed southbound on south 9th street past Rosa Parks Way.

Passing city county building, walking toward oncoming traffic on 10th

Protester Matt Steger said he cane down here after his employer, a restaurant on O st, closed and locked the doors. After he said, he decided to come down and “make a presence.”

Turning onto O St, headed eastbound. Spoke to Rev. Tremain Combs of Zion Baptist. He says he’s out tonight to combat injustice and inequality toward certain races.

Combs said he adressed the protest from the steps Capitol at beginning. He said he’s concerned about destruction of property, but understands the resentment people have

Getting closer now to the gas station that was looted last night on O.

Stopped, to re gather then kept moving. blocking all four directions of 27th and O. Some protestors spray painting streets with messages

Some passerby getting less friendly as we pass 33rd and O. Protestirs seem to be moving faster, and through more traffic.

Things changing tone a little now. Chants of “(expletive) Donald Trump.”

Protestors handing out waterbottles to others. People are telling me they’re in this for the long haul tonight, plan to keep walking. Crowd seems to be getting younger and a little louder as we reach 48th and O.
