I am seeing way too many reporters and photogs covering the protests solo. Don't. Form buddy systems with coworkers. Never wander off. If you don't have a coworker, team up with competitors. There is no scoop here. I say this from experience being assaulted once. Having 1/
managed reporters in protests, riots, during terror attacks. I say it as a reporter who made some stupid decisions when I was younger. Be safe. Have exit strategies. Over communicate with bosses. And just don't cover anything alone.
Oh and if you need to, say no if you feel uncomfortable about an assignment. Thousands of reporters across the U.S. are being called to tell the stories of their communities with almost no training. And doing it bravely.
A few photogs and reporters are asking to be paired up, especially in Manhattan. Anyone willing at 14th St.? If so, DM me. I can hook you up.
