Notes from @TucsonRomero & @ChiefCMagnus press conference:

1. Mayor Romero implored the community for a peaceful demonstration tonight should any demonstration occur though she did stress for folks to stay home.
2. Mayor Romero called this a painful week saying, "We have a moral obligation to call our racism in all of its forms."
3. Mayor Romero called the death of George Floyd maddening and senseless.
4. Mayor Romero on last night's Tucson protest that ended with 4 arrested: "What I saw was not Tucson...hurting local business does nothing to bring justice to Mr. Floyd."
5. Tucson Police Chief Chris Magnus: "It is a tough time for policing but an even tougher time to be a black person in this country."
6. Chief Magnus: After working alongside Thursday night's peaceful protest, he did not anticipate Friday's march to be any different but...
7. Chief Magnus:...on Friday he noticed the crowd had changed, one that now included outside agitators.
8. Chief Magnus: Property damage estimates are not conclusive but he guesses upwards of $200 worth of property was destroyed, including one patrol vehicle.
9. Chief Magnus: The plan is to deploy more officers tonight to the downtown area. Congress and Broadway will close starting at 6pm.
10. Doris Snowden, President of Tucson's NAACP: Said thae police department has worked very closely with Tucson's NAACP.
11. Ms. Snowden: Emphasized, "We have to pray and be patient and recognize change is a process."
12. Ms. Snowden: "This is a time in America we need to unify and not divide."
13. Zion Givens, youth advocate: "I'm tired to not being heard." BUT he called last night's violence, "unacceptable."
14. Mr. Givens: Instead of looting and rioting, he said people should attend a peaceful rally that will take place at the Dunbar, Monday at 7:00 p.m.
15. DJ Jahmar Anthony: Said people are forgetting what these protests are about. George Floyd. The issue is racism not violence.
16. Mr. Anthony: "Those who are violent don't speak for us."
17. Mr Anthony: Again encouraged everyone to attend the peaceful rally to honor those who have lost their lives to police brutality set for Monday at 7:00 p.m. at The Dunbar.
18. Mr. Anthony: "Violence doesn't fix anything...change comes from the ballot box."
