U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar is holding a press conference in S Minneapolis, down the street from Third Precinct. She said she is working on starting a new independent federal agency that will investigate officer-involved killings and injuries.

Omar is also introducing a resolution calling for an end to "militarized policing practices." She said no COVID-19 relief, unless specifically allocated to law enforcement, should be going toward purchase of police weapons or funding police budget shortages.

Omar also called for peace. Said ppl are coming to the community "hellbent" on burning it down, and are destroying minority-owned businesses. “If you care about black lives, you cannot set a fire in Minneapolis risking black lives. I don’t know how more clear we can say that.”
