I& #39;m not shielding but this has made me really angry. It& #39;s yet another example of how little disabled people mean to the government - we& #39;re so expendable that this didn& #39;t even take up time in the daily briefing

In fact, the shielding group has hardly been mentioned in the daily briefings. Elderly people have been praised for staying inside, but young disabled people have not even been acknowledged, despite widespread problems in getting food parcels and supermarket delivery slots
And this will have wider implications than just this pandemic. It implies that disabled people can afford to lose months of their lives, that they don& #39;t have jobs or hobbies or lives. This has created misconceptions in society already - I& #39;ve seen so many tweets
"Cultural prejudice that equates being disabled with being isolated, unproductive or sexless reinforces the idea that it doesn’t really matter if this group has to give up months – even years – of our lives" from @DrFrancesRyan https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/may/11/disabled-people-homes-lockdown">https://www.theguardian.com/commentis...
Recent research by @scope showed that 1 in 4 disabled people feel forgotten by the government, &with a track record like this it& #39;s easy to see why. Disabled people have made extraordinary sacrifices, put their lives on hold, & hardly even been mentioned

This is another thing to add to a list of failings too long to even be addressed in a twitter thread. I cannot even express how frustrating it is to continually have to fight for basic rights, and run into walls constantly.
Disabled people have jobs.
Disabled people have hobbies.
Disabled people have social lives.
Disabled people are not something to be hidden away.
Please don& #39;t forget about us.

Oh, and in case you had forgotten: in 2017, the UN found that the UK was failing to uphold disabled people& #39;s rights https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/aug/31/un-panel-criticises-uk-failure-to-uphold-disabled-peoples-rights">https://www.theguardian.com/society/2...
