Why Jlo stans are pressed at Shakira.

A thread:
I will start this thread post Shakira's crossover. 2001.

So the main reason why Jlo stans are pressed at Shakira is because Jlo never had Shakira's global appeal and international success and appeal.
2001 Shakira crosses over to the English market the releases Whenever Wherever. And her first English album "Laundry Service".

In 2001 Jlo released her album "J.lo" and 2002 "This is me Then"
Laundry Service goes on to sell an estimated 18M copies WORLDWIDE, whereas Jlo's both albums combined sold nearly 14M (8M and 6M) respectively.

Laundry service is listed as an all time best seller in many countries, and was the biggest female album of 2002
Jlo's 2001-2 albums spawned radio hits in the US.
Yet none of them became Global Smash hits.

Shakira's Whenever Wherever became an instant global smash hit selling over 9M copies. And was the best selling song of 2002 WW ( a feat Jlo has never achieved)
Not only was Whenever Wherever was a global smash hit, also Shak's "Underneath Your Clothes" (Shak's globally recognized power ballad) was the 6th biggest song of the year.

Jlo came as close as 37 on the chart with I'm real with 2M points.
Both Whenever Wherever and Laundry Service have broken so many records and are top sellers in many countries (specifically Europe). I'm not going to mention all, for more numbers, be my guest later.
Let's move to 2005 when both women released music at the same time.
Shak released two albums, 1 in Spanish and 1 in English. Jlo released her Rebirth album.

Jlo had one of her signature songs Get Right become a hit in the US. the song did have some global reach, but didn't smash
Whereas with Fijacion OralV1 Shakira had another global smash hit La Tortura (a first in Spanish). And another global smash and iconic hit Hips Don't Lie with the English albun Oral FixationV2.

La Tortura despite being a Spanish hit was the 5th biggest hit of the year WW
Jlo's get right came in at #19.

It was later revealed and admitted that Sony used payola to increase Get Right's airplay in the US and was sent to court. This explains Jlo's low sales yet high position on the US charts.
Yet Shakira's global thrive continued with "La Tortura" becoming the highest selling Spanish song WW in history. And Fijación Oral became the best selling Spanish album of the decade both in the US and WW.

Est
Jlo Rebirth: 2M
Shak FO1: 5M
Shak OF2: 8M
After breaking barriers and records with her Spanish record "La Tortura". Shakira had yet another and much bigger GLOBAL SMASH HIT, "Hips Don't Lie"

Hips Don't lie broke records both in the US and WW and is ond of the best selling songs of all time.
I'm not going to go tooo deep in Hips Don't Lie global record breaking trajectory. As known, HDL was the best selling song of 2006 WW (a feat Jlo has not achieved) and became one of the only 3 women to do so twice and the only Latin artist.
Selling 16M copies WW
"Hips Don't Lie" is commonly dubbed as

"THE BEST SELLING SONG OF THE CENTURY"
Shakira became a cemented legend, and considered a unique artist.

Jlo lost her success after Sony stopped payola. And went through years of commercial success failures.

During 2005-2006 the British "The Independent" described Jlo as a "MINNOW" compared to Shakira 💀💀😂
In 2007 Jlo TRIED the "Shakira formula" releasing 1 Spanish album and 1 English album. "Como Ama Una Mujer" and "Brave"

Both became commercial failures, failing to reach 1M mark in sales.

CAUM failed to score Latin Grammys noms or Grammys (Shak's FO v1 made history with 6 WINS)
Both albums also failed to spawn any sprt of hits, and Jlo's post-payola commercial failure continued.

Meanwhile Shakira scored yet another hit Beautiful Liar (which was not as big as her previous global smash hits, but still did numbers WW)
We're in 2009. Both women release music at the same time.
Singles:
Shakira: She Wolf
Jlo: Louboutins

Although She Wolf wasn't as big as her previous hits, still managed to have +3M points by the end of year.

On the other hand Jlo's Louboutins was a massive flop
At this point Jlo had a string of a multiple failed projects, proving that she did not survive the digital era after her payola-driven airplay success.
The decade ends. And Shakira's hips don't lie was named as the Best selling song of the decade. Along with 3 of her other WW smashes (more than anyone).

As expected Jlo did not make the list.
2010.
Shakira releases Waka Waka and sells 15 M copies and the song becomes a streaming success as well with +3.6B streams. (digital and streaming success).

And Sony (label) at last drops Jlo.

Will get into the Waka Waka success later on 💀.
2010-2011.
Both release music.

In 2011 Jlo had a huge comeback and cemented her status as an A list celeb. And released her first ever global smash hit, the Pitbull assisted "On The Floor". The song went to become her first and only 10M seller selling 11M copies WW.
Yet again OTF fails to outsell Waka Waka both in downloads and streams, Waka waka has 3x times the streams.

In 2010-11
Shakira released a Spanish album "Sale El Sol". Jlo released her "LOVE?" album
Despite being in Spanish Sale El Sol (5m) sold more than the double of LOVE (2m)
Fast forward to 2014. Both women release albums.

Shakira released her Self titled album which sold 1M copies in a year, and Jlo released AKA. Which is deemed to be one of the biggest flops for "pop icons" selling less than 250K copies.
2014 was messy.
Jlo once again tried Shakira formula and released a World cup song. Which was a disaster.

The GP demanded Shakira tocome back, hence she came by popular demand and released La La La which outsold outstreamed Jlo's official WC song, and was favorited by everyone.
Jlo was back to commercial struggle after a brief boom in 2011 12 and Shakira kept thriving. With being one of the most powerful pop stars in 2014 according to GWR
Fast forward ro 2016-17-18

Both Shakira and Jlo embark on a Spanish era. With Shakira commencing her El Dorado era and Jlo once again tried the Shakira formula and announced her Spanish album "Por Primera Vez"
Shakira released strings of hits that became streaming monsters. Like "Chantaje" "La Bicicleta" "Perro Fiel" "Me Enamore" Chantaje became another global smash to Shakira's credit.

Meanwhile Jlo released a string of 14 flopped singles
El Dorado became a global success, and is the second most streamed female album in history 11B, despite Shakira being from the 90s. El Dorado broke countless records.

Whereas Jlo's album got canceled by Sony because of the singles were one failure after another.
Now even in the US, Shakira started selling more records than Jlo, and passes Jlo's records certificstions by RIAA.
In 2020 Shakira and Jlo co-headlined the superbowl. Despite Jlo being an A list celebrity in the US and a pop culture icon, and having the media side with her.

Shakira outshined JLo by far witj numbers... That's a whole other thread https://twitter.com/ShakiBomba/status/1224975187470422017?s=19
At this point. I'd like to say that the sole purpose of this thread is to correct a Jlo stan who made a similar thread.

I'm here to educate as the philanthropist I am. I'm just here to provide numbers.

For further clarifications, I have more numbers to provide. LATER!
