TW: sex trafficking / im not against sex work but this person did not have to bring up the “poorl girl in a 3rd world country and an incredible opportunity abroad” thing. (also im p sure threads like this already exist but i still would like to share my thoughts) 1/?
as someone who comes from a “3rd world country” (which is an offensive and outdated term) whose extended family members have had to leave home for work to support their own families, you DO NOT get to fucking treat this kind of shit as an “incredible opportunity abroad” 2/?
if that girl wants to do sex work then i support that. i do not support it when that girl sees it as the only option left to make money for her family/herself because the government failed the people and left them to die living in poverty with no healthcare no housing no hope 3/?
the kind of mentality that environment creates can make people strong, but vulnerable to opportunities guaranteeing stability and safety for their families/themselves that can ultimately end up putting them in harm’s way 4/?
people can become vulnerable from those environments because a lot of times, family might be all you have. so, of course you’d want to be able to keep them safe, happy, comfortable, healthy; everything the government won’t give is what they’d want their families to have. 5/?
same goes for people who end up only having themselves left to protect and look after 6/?
if a girl in these conditions wanted to do sex work because she wanted to help her family or herself and became a victim of sex trafficking 7/?
she is not a victim for you to use her and people like her in your generalization of sex trafficking victims. she is not only a victim of sex trafficking, but a victim of the actions of the corrupt government of the “3rd world count[ry]” she came from 8/?
nonchalantly treating the kind of behavior the original tweet was about (it was in reference to “the na/ked philan/thropist”) as “an incredible opportunity abroad” makes these girls sound GULLIBLE, 9/?
when really they were VULNERABLE and TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF by people who MADE them think they would be able to live BETTER LIVES by making MONEY through these means to SUPPORT their families/themselves 10/?
the kind of behavior and “opportunity”, whether seen on social media or in person, that p̶i̶q̶u̶e̶s̶ TARGETS the interest of people in need of reassurance that they or their family will be okay, or of someone in need of money to support their family or themselves 11/?
that kind of behavior is disgusting. no matter how much experience you have doing sex work, no matter how much you’ve LIVED through, condoning/ignoring this shit is immoral 12/?
and dropping your little 5 Cents on sex trafficking, making them look like they were too gullible to realize that this “incredible opportunity abroad” was really a trap is fucking immoral too. 13/?
ADDITIONALLY: sex trafficking can happen anywhere in the world, not just “3rd world countr[ies].” saying they “usually star[t] with a girl” from said countries is frankly offensive, as it can sound like “they were desperate and poor so they needed money and had no choice” 14/14
THATS ALL. pls don’t attack OP or anything if you’ve seen the original tweet. i’m not an authority on matters regarding sex trafficking, i’m just mad as someone who has family in a “3rd world country” and i made this thread to express that anger and my thoughts so ty for ur time
ALSO GIRLS DONT HAVE TO USE SHE/HER PRONOUNS, that was just my go-to so i could fit stuff better into the character limit and i’m sorry if that offends anyone.
