THREAD: A call to action for white people in #teamADHD & #neurodiversesquad

I've noticed an eerie, disturbing silence regarding #blacklivesmatter recently. #ADHDers, we need to step up for our ENTIRE community.
There are a lot of emotions and info to take in and it's important to take care of your mental health at this time. We know this. That's what our community is all about.

But remember that if you're white & choosing to *not* talk about race, especially right now, you are
reinforcing white supremacy. Silence effectively says "this isnt my problem", and you know who benefits from that? Certainly not black people.

Just because we have the privilege to stay quiet about racism doesn't mean that it's excusable. It is our responsibility to be allies.
For those of us with wonky exectivive function, its really hard to decide where to start and how exactly *to* speak up (especially when you throw RSD into the mix), but there is no such thing as a silent ally and we have to make an effort, even when its difficult.
This community is filled with some of the most supportive, understanding, passionate, and incredibly empathetic people I've ever come across. I know we know how to care for one another because we've got huge hearts and beautiful minds. I also know we have a lot to say.
Conversations about race are difficult for white people because we aren't engaging in them enough. But just as talking about ADHD becomes easier with exposure, time, and practice, so do discussions about race.
Because of how supportive the #ADHD community is, I am confident that white, neurodiverse folks will not be shamed, embarrassed, or exiled for practicing vulnerability in addressing internalized & systemic racism, so long as they are willing to make an effort to listen and learn.
We have to care for our community members who are, and have been, hurting. We cannot rely on black people facilitate these conversations, or to expect silence when their reality is *vastly* different than ours. It is our responsibility to speak out about these injustices too.
Thank you to all who are sharing anti-racist resources on your pages, listening to what black people are saying, engaging in conversations about racism in our community and beyond, diversifying your "following" list, donating if able, and taking action however else you can
***EDIT: hey yall I'm sorry for failing to capitalize "Black" and #BlackLivesMatter throughout this thread. I'll def be doing so moving forward to enunciate the importance Black people and this movement.
