Every Leftist revolution is like a methamphetamine high.

Beginning (sober): Dissatisfaction with the way things are.
The come up: Elation, extreme euphoria, belief you can do anything.
The peak: Total loss of inhibitions--power high.

1/
The come down: Extreme paranoia. Shadow people around every corner. Put cameras everywhere to watch out for "the cops." Obsessive compulsive behaviors. This period is unpleasantly long.
Chasing: Memories of the good old times makes you double down and try again, harder.

Now comes a fork in the road. Your options are:

A: Repentance. The hours of misery following each momentary high is not worth it, on the balance, so it's best to stop for good.

B: Death. Self explanatory. You continue chasing as the pleasures diminish, but the damage 3/
accumulates irreversibly.

Repentance is the objectively better option but it has a bittersweet epilogue:

Wounds. The damage to your body, relationships, self worth, conscience remind you of the error of your ways.

As I write this thread I realize it took a life of its own. 4/
This speaks more to the human person and the works of individual sin, rather than nations that have had Leftist revolutions.

This is because in my view, NOT A SINGLE COUNTRY that has had a revolution has repented (stopped for good) yet.

France has had some false starts but is still bearing the revolutionary tricolor and ideology. America is just beginning to come down. China currently is peaking. It's too early to tell if Russia is Repenting or Chasing.

(And no, I've never done meth but have read life 6/
