Thousands are gathered here in Flatbush today in a rally against police brutality. There’s speakers by the Parkside Ave subway stop, & people playing music closer to the entrance of Prospect Park

It’s hot out here, and most people are wearing both sunglasses and masks
Crowd slowly starting to march up Parkside now
A couple MTA bus drivers are beeping and chapping in solidarity, are being met with cheers. Trying to avoid tweeting crowd pics out of caution, but people are walking around cars stopped in the street. Here are 2 signs
Wanna emphasize that there’s a lot of solidarity between people in the parked cars and the marchers. Lots are beeping and clapping. One is beeping in the rhythm to the “no justice / no peace” chant
There’s a helicopter hovering over the crowds. Unclear if it’s law enforcement, news, etc.
Update: hundreds of people are flipping off the helicopter
Ok I can see the helicopter more clearly now. It says NYPD.
The NYPD helicopter is currently flying at such low altitude that you can’t really hear anything besides the helicopter. Any chants and cheers are being drowned out
The NYPD helicopter noise is deafening. Crowd has pretty much stopped moving. Everyone is looking up
People started putting their hands up and chanting over the NYPD helicopter noise. The crowd has since started moving again
The crowd is walking through a residential part of Ocean Ave. Lots of people cheering outside their homes and banging pots and pans from windows.

Currently circling back to Prospect Park/Parkside Ave subway stop area
Crowd heading up Flatbush Ave right now on the east side of the park
Everyone’s currently gathering around the Brooklyn Public Library. A couple of people are leading a chant, and behind them, a group is holding up a banner
Everyone’s started to move past Grand Army Plaza into Prospect Heights
Marchers are heading down Flatbush Ave now. A couple of marchers are moving no parking cones and barricades out of the way to make more room for the people walking in the street
People are starting to gather at the Barclays Center, the site of the protests last night. Everyone’s getting behind a barricade at the 5th Ave intersection
To be clear, the crowd is still moving and looping from Flatbush Ave down Atlantic Ave toward the Manhattan Bridge. Lots of stalled cars beeping in solidarity
Lots of energy here right now (Apologies for the not great visuals. Trying to keep the safety of people in mind when I post)
Two police cars in Brooklyn today:
An activist speaking on the steps of Borough Hall, to all the people who want to support but can’t walk today:
“You can donate, share,” he said. “Think about all of the black and brown people that you love.”
Everyone’s starting to gather outside the Brooklyn Detention Complex on Atlantic Ave, chanting “hands up / don’t shoot”
Police are currently blocking off the Smith St/Sackett St intersection. The crowd is gathering around that intersection
Someone threw a book at police, it got tense for a moment, but an activist told everyone to keep it peaceful and continue moving.

Worth noting there’s several different protests going on in NYC right now
