Derek Chauvin is in jail, but I don’t see how you can look at the record of police killing unarmed black people in the US and think that we can fire or prosecute our way to a more just, less racist police force. /2
Police are the only release valve we use for the pressure built up by our racist economic and political system. We don’t invest in public housing, health, or education anymore. Instead, we invest in cops. /3
It doesn't matter if individual police are or aren't racist. POLICING is racist because a racist society asks police to Make Racist Outcomes Seem Okay. It’s hard for me to see it another way. /4
Lately I’m learning from abolitionists like @prisonculture who work to diminish the power of police and prisons in our communities. /5
