I remember reading about Birth of A Nation in my Intro to Film Class. Was the earliest twelve-reel film out here and the longest one at that point in time (re: 3 hours long). It was the first film to be screened in the White House and Bitch in Chief Woodrow Wilson’s fave film.

Me personally? I would go as far as calling it the first blockbuster. I know people give that title to Jaws but retroactive figures from BOAN per James Monaco’s ‘How to Read a Film: Movies, Media, and Beyond’ places it’s’ recalculated box office figures between 50 - 100 million.

It was also cited as the film that inspired the fucking KKK to reboot themselves months after it came out in 1915.

Motherfuckers invented whole ass moving pictures to spread White power. None of this is game or coincidental.
