I will never forget
1) Being called an Oreo by my friends at 13 years old.
2) Being told my curly hair was ugly at 14 years old.
3) Being told I’d have to work 10 times harder than my peers to get recognized for anything at 15 years old.
...
4) Being told by a “friend” I’d be more attractive if I was more mixed at 16 years old
5) Being the only black person in an office, working my butt off, and getting fired for reasons I still don’t understand at 20 years old
6) Being told by my parents to be compliant w/ the police no matter what & keep my information out in the open so they wouldn’t see me as a threat by reaching into my glove compartment at 21 years old
7) Being told by my black friends that they feel ignored and overlooked by their non-black peers & having to help them deal with the pain of being black in this world my entire LIFE.
AND SO MUCH MORE. I will never forget any of it.
This is real life guys. I don’t care what shade of brown you are. This is a POC’s reality, and especially a black person’s. The depth of this issue reaches insane levels and it needs to change.
