These boys are both my sons.

One of them can go for a jog alone (when he’s old enough) and have no concerns. The other must never. When he asks his friends to go for a run with him, they don’t understand what he’s really asking and he doesn’t explain. 1/
One of them will be able to do his best in school, whatever his best looks like, and then get a job. The other has been taught the truth: that to have the same opportunities his siblings and white friends will have, he has to try harder and be better, friendlier, smarter. 2/
One of them will never have to be afraid of racial discrimination at school. The other has lived it over and over since the 1st grade when another boy pushed him down during a soccer game and said, “I don’t play with Africans.” 3/
One of them will only be afraid of police if he does wrong. The other will always be afraid of police no matter how perfect he is.

Both of them are beloved sons, children on a journey, created in God’s image.

One has nothing to lose- the other everything.

Enough is enough.
