Care Homes:
We spoke to 147 care homes & below some snippets of what they told us. Please remember this was done over a period of 1 week and complete almost 2 weeks ago, we have not been back in touch with them since. MSM must face questions over reporting of covid19 1/11

Manager: Head office sent us a schedule for TVs to be off during certain tv programs and gave suggestions of activities to put on for residents because residents are panicking and none of our homes have cases. 2/11
Manager: Our residents are absolutely petrified with what is being said on tv, we have removed the plug from the tv in our day room and reassure residents they are safe and we have plenty of PPE. 3/11
Manager: We took the decision to ban all TVs in communal areas, we screen every newspaper and don’t put any out until 48hrs after we receive them. Staff constantly having to reassure people. 4/11
Manager: Keeping everyone that is able to do activities busy during morning tv is the new normally for us, it’s working and everyone is less fearful now. 5/11
Manager: If reports start to show that most care homes don’t have any problems then we will allow TVs to be switched back on, it’s good to see the problems but we also need to see most care homes are succeeding against the virus. 6/11
Manager: It’s not just putting fear into residents but families too, our lines are ringing none stop during and just after news broadcasts. I am cross at the wrongful fear being put on our residents and families. 7/11
Manager: We are coping fine & so is everyone in our facility, our staff decided early on to ban TVs during certain hours & shield everyone from what is being said. Some staff have said family is scared but they reassure their family and get on with things. 8/11
It actually proved difficult getting them to talk and about 1/3 didn’t and that was with the member of my team involved in the industry as many bosses warned staff not to talk to press or anyone. After we reassured them we only wanted to discuss the impact of the coverage- 9/11
About 2/3 spoke to us, 26 mentioned either total tv bans or scheduled tv bans during certain times. Almost all said coverage made there job harder, more stressful and increased there work load. MSM must be held accountable for this. 10/11
At the time of doing this around 2/3 of carehomes where Covid free but the coverage did not represent this & blanket doom was used to score points. MSM must consider the pain & anguish that can be caused with this style of point scoring reports. 11/11
