for all my non-black and white friendships who are angry with the protesting you have to remember these protests aren’t violent for the sake violence, they’re violent because it’s only the way to send a message
When I was younger my mom told me a story about how when she was maybe 10 years old she went with my grandpa to pick up her older brother from football practice. Now my grandpa was black but white passing or presenting how ever you like to say it and a mans came and tapped-
On his window and as he saw the man approach he told my mom to duck in the backseat and not come up until he said. She told me that she just sat there as a young black girl listening to this man invite her father to a KKK rally because he thought he was white.
Now my uncle is much darker skinned than my mom, and way darker than my grandpa. Then she started crying and looked me in the eye and told me “all I could do was pray that my brother didn’t see the car because I was so afraid of what this man would do if he saw him.”
THAT IS THE REALITY OF BEING BLACK IN AMERICA, IT WAS IN THE 70’S AND THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT HASNT CHANGED!
My grandfather took the flyer, and a couple of his friends and burned down their building before the rally. Nobody got hurt and nobody died, but they sure as shit sent a message. And that’s what the violence is about. Sometimes the only way to be heard is to scream.
