HOW TO GET CLIENTS WITH COLD CALLING.

If you're struggling to book meetings and land clients...Maybe you need to pick up the fucking phone.

A phone call is the fastest way to get in touch with another human being.

No, it's not always fun, but it's highly effective.

THREAD.
Cold calling is picking up the phone and dialing someone you've never talked to in your entire life.

We're not gonna do that.

I know, I know, I said "cold" calling...But there are ways to make it lukewarm.

Before you call someone, you should have reached out to them before.
Send them an email.

Message them on Linkedin.

Send them an actual letter (yes, this works).

Send them another email.

By the time they pick up the phone and hear you say your name...

...They should KNOW who you are.

It's still gonna be awkward, so suck it up and get over it.
"What do I say?"

I'll give you a little tidbit I learned in a corporate-sponsored Sandler sales training.

Say...

"Name, this is [your name] from [company]."

Pause.

That's it.

They call this a pattern interrupt.

It's so weird that it forces them to reply "Hey, [name]."
Don't waste their time - state the purpose of the call.

"I'm following up on my email about freelance copywriting. Is now a terrible time to talk?"

Some people will say yes. No worries.

Ask them when is better to talk. Call them at the time.
But a lot of people will be like "Well, nah, what's up?"

The GOAL is to get them to a discovery call.

So give a quick outline of the benefits you provide, and ask them to commit to a longer call.

Try and get a convo going.

Longer call = better chance they say yes.
RECAP:

-Reach out to people beforehand
-Call with a clear goal
-Use a pattern interrupt
-Get a conversation going as long as possible

So...Pick up the phone, and start dialing.

If you need some motivation:
If you got value out of this, or you have more questions about tech sales and copywriting, get on my email list.

I write longer in-depth emails covering every part of the sales cycle.
