Many Americans are rightfully angered and in pain after the tragic death of George Floyd. The Floyd family, and our country, need immediate answers. As we continue to call for justice, I’ve been encouraged to see Minnesota authorities take action.
While the anger and grief are intense and justifiable, the destruction we have seen across our country is not. Last night, we saw this in Atlanta, a city with a long and proud history of peaceful protests.
It’s a Constitutional right to speak out and peacefully assemble. What happened last night in Atlanta was totally unacceptable.
For decades, Atlanta has served as an example for how to manage differences peacefully and we must continue that legacy moving forward. I commend @GovKemp, Mayor @KeishaBottoms, and local law enforcement for working together to achieve that shared goal.
