Very brief thread: This is probably not a terribly illuminating insight but one of the things that really wears on you with Twitter is the idea that you can hold only one of two opinions on a subject, either for or against: https://twitter.com/kenfoxe/status/1266472133452091395?s=20
So on the one hand, I've been a vocal opponent of the lack of transparency & sometimes lavish expenditure surrounding Office of the President but rather than just moan on Twitter, I actually worked to bring some openness to that debate.
And so, the public can now examine details of presidential travel in the government jet because I spent (wasted) a lot of time over several years making sure that information came into the public domain: https://www.ocei.ie/decisions/right-to-know-clg-the-dep-1/
Yet on the other hand, I can watch last night's Late Late Show in a week when American cities are burning and the garden of Downing Street becomes a circus and think having a head of state whose first instinct is to try and actually lift people's spirits ...
... who chooses not to punch down on those on welfare, or for whom life is difficult. Who expresses veneration for healthcare workers, older people, frontline workers, artists, and sports people. And think that we are fortunate to have a President like Michael D Higgins ...
... if you think he's a hypocrite, or a bore, or whatever, then that's your entitlement. But please don't lecture me with facts, some of which you only know about because I've dragged them into the public domain.
