NOPE. If you want to know something, go and find out. Start with Google. Search phrases on social media and seek out the threads that have resources. DO NOT ASK POC to do your work. It takes a lot for folks to share information and many don& #39;t choose to. THAT IS THEIR RIGHT. https://twitter.com/suleikhasnyder/status/1266740973725519873">https://twitter.com/suleikhas...
There are LOADS of people within every community who take on the burden of teaching. Those are the folks you seek out. Follow and read a lot before asking questions. (The vast majority of the time, your question has been asked and answered a million times.)
Even your friends within a community are not required/obligated to respond to queries about their identities.
Got a specific query? Think long & hard about WHY you& #39;re asking. Is it absolutely necessary for you to know this? Is it your place to ask it? Part of our entitlement is thinking we are deserving of answers to all our questions. It& #39;s enough to say, "That& #39;s not my space" & walk by.
Also? Every time you single someone out to ask, you& #39;re placing a burden of representation on them. It& #39;s already there because *gestures* society, but you& #39;re reminding them that they can& #39;t just be themselves; they& #39;re THAT friend. And that must be soul-crushingly tiresome.
And even if someone has made themselves available in the past to teach, it doesn& #39;t mean they are willing to do so at this minute. Lives change, people change, circumstances change. And if there has been fresh trauma in a community, it is the LAST time to ask/expect anything.
