started reading this manga called Blue Period and gosh, the main struggling to develop his art is relatable. my heart's pounding so hard from reading it!!!! there's only 19 chapter so far but I'm HOOKED
Was planning on sleeping earlier today but I got too invested in reading manga... suddenly it's 1am????
Anyways this manga really got me thinking about what kinda art I wanna get into... even though I don't really draw seriously... but there are some things that I particularly enjoy.
The thing I admire most about artists (especially manga!!!!!) is how they can express emotion and depth in b&w, or with monochromatic palettes. I find those styles extremely engaging and eye-catching!
This is also the primary reason why I love love love P5 so much!!!! I like the simple contrast between red, black, and white – but the menus and art are done in such a unique and fun manner that I sometimes just look at a scene and am in awe
Trying to think of other specific scenes I really enjoy... Tokyo Ghoul comes to mind for some reason. I liked how Ishida Sui's style conveyed the bloody, edgy mood of the series. Particularly how they used many strengths of black lines overall (which makes their art v distinctive
I don't know proper art terms so I'm just going off with my own language here
I also enjoyed Naruto's art lol – very clean-looking, but still quite nuanced (?)

HxH is its own brand of unique, and it suits the series very well. It's realistic but quirky enough that it resonates with the fantasy setting.
Just.... aaaaaah I love b&w art so much. There's so much depth, and I like how my brain can colour in the scenes while I read to make it feel more real
Another mention for Noragami because I find the curves and clarity (?) of the characters very very beautiful

I like the way Adachi Toka draws Yato's eyes and mouth LOL
Thinking about the details in the Gothic/lolita style clothing in Kuroshitsuji as well, those things look hard af to line
Well I can't really think of a specific panel/manga atm, but this thread is just my two cents

Everyone likes different things, and art is extremely EXTREMELY subjective
I just fucking love observing the lines, curves, and effects in manga (which is why I read more than I watch anime)

Case in point: Tokyo Ghoul's anime just isn't as punchy or impactful as the manga panels. No shade to the studio, it's just that the delivery was different.
