How do my black friends feel about white photographers hopping in the car and driving wherever to photograph the protests? Are they seen as an ally? Are they seen as taking advantage of the situation to make photos? What’s the best way to talk about this? I want to learn
Does the fact that I’m white and have a camera become a catalyst for more frustration? Is it even our job to tell this story right now? Or should we be an audience and let the marginalized people in our community speak what they’ve been trying to tell us for so long?
showing up with my camera feels like a cop out. I can be there but not participate. I can watch what’s happening and take photos then move on. It’s sitting on the sidelines and observing - kind of like what white people have been doing for the last 50 years
I’ve gotten a thousand replies to this, and I will say from what I’ve seen, it’s a lot more white people responding saying it’s fine than black people
