Since 2017, one goal of far right fight clubs scattered across the country has been to provoke a conflict big enough to bring in the weight of the federal government against Democratic governors and mayors.
This was the plan behind last August& #39;s big rally of "patriots" in Portland that turned out to be a dud. https://twitter.com/SethCotlar/status/1162733035399217152?s=20">https://twitter.com/SethCotla...
These far right chaos agents have a range of motivations. Some are white nationalist true believers, some are fame seeking sociopaths, some are authoritarian "populists" who are eager to see Trump squash "the radical left."
But just like hundreds of people flew in to Portland from across the country to try to provoke a Trump crackdown on that city last summer, such folks are undoubtedly trying to stir up sh*t by turning the righteous George Floyd protests to serve their unrighteous ends.
Anyone familiar with the history of protest in the US knows that it& #39;s always good to be wary of the "outside agitator" narrative.
Yet anyone familiar with the history of the far right also knows that the way these numerically small groups hope to effect change is by capitalizing on moments of instability like this. https://www.bellingcat.com/news/2020/05/27/the-boogaloo-movement-is-not-what-you-think/">https://www.bellingcat.com/news/2020...
As the evidence in this thread shows, we still have much to learn about who exactly the people were who stoked the violence that accompanied the righteous protests against police violence. https://twitter.com/Freeyourmindkid/status/1266598693647638528?s=20">https://twitter.com/Freeyourm...
