I wonder how many voted for Trump because they were comforted by assurances that his schtick was an act and not how he'd govern. What excuses will they cling to now?
Even now, I'll bet as the election gets closer there will be a pull in the coverage, a hesitation to treat Trump as destructive to the country as he has obviously been, because balance seeking, both sides traditions are dear to how one covers a campaign.
Honestly I feel kind of bad about constantly referring back to this column, because it's of a piece with many similar normalization efforts, but the condescending headline of this one has just stuck to me like a burr. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/calm-down-well-be-fine-no-matter-who-wins/2016/11/04/e5ca3c32-a2d3-11e6-a44d-cc2898cfab06_story.html
I feel like the people coming at me with, "This would be going on if Clinton was president too" really haven't fully grasped the Trump doctrine of always take a bad situation and make it much, much worse.
Trump went out of his way to signal he'll protect racist cops. I don't think that's incidental to where we are. https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/20/opinions/policing-reform-trump-administration-ifill/index.html
