I was part of the push to decriminalize & ultimately make legal, regulate, tax & educate Jamaicans on its proper use & abuse. The Govt (all involved) have gone abt it the wrng way & have ruled out ordinary folk with & overegulated mrkt, high prices & no supporting infrastructure. https://twitter.com/khiajosina/status/1266755638253752322
Ganja in Jamaica cannot compete with the vast acreages in Mexico, Latin America, USA. Ours is a niche market of bi-products, the primary product linked with health & wellness(spas, mountains, wfalls) tourism. And linked with tourism, entertainment, the Jamaican experience.
Currently the market is overegulated, over-priced for licences and without support & push from Govt. A thriving market need local seed banks, with quality control re landraces(indigenous strains) & imported strains. Home growers & commercial growers need seed banks & nurseries.
We should be pushing the growing of organic herbs in the traditional places and also on other farm lands. Taste & quality is where we need to go and safe approved by products for medical cosmetic and consumption purposes.
The persons operating the Agency & Govt do not understand & believe in the Cannabis industry and how it can be a significant player in the economy, generating real wealth for many. Growing bush weed is normative & too much Indica - we loosing out niche.
