Reading about last night’s protests in Milwaukee and it is not lost on me they stopped near the District 5 station. https://amp.jsonline.com/amp/5290062002?__twitter_impression=true

District 5 includes a large portion of Milwaukee’s North Side, including the 53206 zip code. That zip code has the highest percentage of black men who have been incarcerated in the country.

I used to live in District 5 because it includes Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood. A story I have told on here before of me calling the police on a party filled with white people who were beating a woman bloody and the police not responding happened in District 5.

(Also, the Riverwest Neighborhood Association Facebook group is a lot of people talking about being worried about black people walking in groups to hang out in the park. It is NextDoor, but on Facebook and populated by people who think belonging to the DSA gives them a pass.)

The District 5 station is a block west of MLK, where some businesses were damaged and looted.

While not the same Walgreens, it was in the parking lot of a Walgreens in Milwaukee where a player for the Milwaukee Bucks was tased by the police.

Reading the article, the route taken by protesters is not lost on me at all.

Also, having heard from Black and Latino Milwaukeeans of racial profiling at certain businesses and witnessed white people dismiss it, I am just finishing this by encouraging you to believe Black and Hispanic/Latinx people and stop supporting those businesses.
