if you’re in the UK looking at the US and thinking ‘we’re not like that here’, you’re mistaken. racism was central to the creation of much of Britain, and impacts almost every aspect of modern day society.
read Angela Saini’s eye-opening book Superior: https://www.waterstones.com/book/superior/angela-saini/9780008341008 https://twitter.com/glamrou/status/1266659138882408449
at school in the UK we learn about the history and politics of racism in the US. what we don’t learn very often is that ~50k white Britons were slaveowners, that it was British academics who invented + exported eugenics.

Superior was voted the book of 2019 by a lot of places.
you don’t even need to try to see the impact of racism. the uk has considerable ethnicity pay gaps, academic attainment gaps, healthcare inequality +higher rates of poverty amongst non-white communities.
as Prof @NicolaRollock has shown, of 19285 🇬🇧professors, 35 are black women
Angela doesn’t use Twitter anymore, after Superior came out she was forced of this site by ~ you guessed it ~ racists.

Honestly, her research and wisdom are more important now than ever before.

you can get the audiobook of Superior here; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Superior-Fatal-Return-Race-Science/dp/B07K6SJ2MC
you might remember when Superior came out, + Angela was invited to barely any UK science or literature festivals (especially compared to the summer Inferior came out). presumably events organisers figured the Great British public wouldn’t want to be confronted w/ our racist past
but the problem is, we can’t just hide from it. racism is rife in the UK.

it’s why Black, Asian and ethnic minority people are much more likely than their white counterparts to die of #COVID19, be arrested or work in low-income jobs.

racism is not just a US thing.
deleted/re-wrote my last tweet because of this. i will always capitalise in future, and am sorry for any offence caused. https://twitter.com/bcmorrow/status/1266601757909663745?s=21 https://twitter.com/bcmorrow/status/1266601757909663745
